Our Story
Hi! We are Amy Guest & Renee Dierdorff, co-founders of Kid Biz Expo. We saw a need in our community that was not being met. Between the two of us, our 5 daughters have their own businesses. While taking them to local farmers markets for over a year, we noticed they were always competing with adults for business or they weren't taken seriously. It occurred to us that it would be a really challenging and rewarding experience if kids had an avenue to sell among their peers. They would gain experience from creating inventory, budgeting, marketing and then selling their goods to the public. Gain confidence by talking to adults about their products and then see the reward in the form of a profit once it was done!
We took this idea and created our first market event in August 2021. It was incredible to see the out-pouring of support from the community and parents, understanding the value that an event like this can bring to the up and coming generation. This event had 30 kid-owned businesses apply and we had the support of 11 business sponsors! The parents, kids and event-goers all enjoyed the positive atmosphere! The kids had a successful day and everyone was asking us to do another event!
Seeing the potential for this concept, we decided to go “all-in” and create Kid Biz Expo. We worked hard and are proud to say we are now a recognized 501(c)(3) organization! Our goal is to continue to provide an avenue for young entrepreneurs to grow that entrepreneurial spirit, gain confidence, learn life lessons, and much more! We have networking opportunities, mentorship programs, workshops and one day scholarships!
